I know a number of readers are fans of Baroness Trumpington, who has already been the subject of one or two of my posts. A reader who definitely falls in that category has drawn my attention to a story on her written earlier this year by Quentin Letts. You can read the story here.
I can confirm that she used to be a chain smoker but has now, I understand, given up completely (smoking, that is). We used to have a number of chain smokers. One, some years ago, when he was a front bencher and was having to spend some hours on the front bench, on one or two occasions forced a vote: he was desperate for a cigarette and it was the only way he could have a break. Fortunately, most such smokers have now seen the error of their ways and in any event the Palace is now a smoke-free environment.

While I don’t make a habit of reading he Daily Mail I do make an online exception for Quentin Letts who writes a delightful parliamentary sketch in a country that sadly lacks a first amendment.
Dear Lord Norton,
I am one of those who is a fan of Lady Trumpington so thank you for posting the link to a sketch which captures her in all her magnificence!
I am also a fan of Quentin Letts who in addition to parliamentary sketches writes some of the best reviews of theatre in the country.
Howridiculous.
Lord Norton i am a huge fan of Baroness Trumpington her performances at lords questions are great. Her quick wit and sense of fun is something i look forward too.
