Scilly transport in the news

Lord Berkeley

fs160510 FRIST spring newsletter

The Friends of the Isles of Scilly Transport (FRIST) newsletter is published this month.

It provides and update on the structure of organisations on the islands dealing with transport, the increases in charges and fares to and from the islands and the lack of response from the monopoly provides of transport to customer queries.

Improvements to the airports at Lands End and St Mary’s, as well as to the quay at St Mary’s are described.  Sadly, nothing much as changed at Penzance, where passengers get wet waiting, not just when it is raining but also when spray from southerly waves overtop the Grade 1 listed wall.

Fares to Scilly on the summer only Scillonian are now around £53 single and on the Skybus from Lands End £82 single, so it is not cheap for a family of four!

A new ship operating all year round, affordable fares and some competition on the route is now urgently required!

More info on the attached newsletter.

    Thank you for telling us.

We in this mainland city also have to stand in the wind, rain and cold whenever public-transport buses get cancelled-without-warning – which is too frequent, several times a week – and likewise not good for some people’s health and possible survival.
