This week’s quiz is a straightforward one inviting you to identify some senior members of the House. Peers are drawn from a range of backgrounds. This week the focus is on ministerial background. As usual, the first two readers to supply the correct answers will be the winners.
1. I am a Conservative peer. I have served as Leader of the House of Commons as well as Leader of the House of Lords. Who am I?
2. I am the only former Chancellor of the Exchequer sitting in the House of Lords who has never held a Cabinet post outside the Treasury. Who am I?
3. My husband has been a party leader and I have served as a minister. Who am I?
4. I am a former Labour Cabinet minister – my posts included Secretary of States for Prices and Consumer Protection – who has also served as Leader of the Liberal Democrat peers. Who am I?

1. Lord Wakeham
2. Lord Lamont of Lerwick
3. Baroness Kinnock of Holyhead
4. Baroness Williams of Crosby
1. Viscount Whitelaw
2. Baron Lamont of Lerwick
3. Baroness Kinnock of Holyhead
4. Baroness Williams of Crosby
None of them was easily recognisable from the picture…
Oops… First one should have been Lord Wakeham, seeing as Viscount Whitelaw is no longer with us.

2) Lord Lamont of Lerwick
3) Baroness Kinnock of Holyhead
4) Baroness Williams of Crosby

4) Lady Williams of Crosby
A bit late in the day, but I’m going to try the quiz anyway for fun (!)
1. Lord Wakeham
2. Lord Healey (was going to say Lamont – is Chief Secretary to the Treasury always a Cabinet post?)
3. Baroness Kinnock of Holyhead
4. Baroness Williams of Crosby
Jonathan: Lord Healey also served as Defence Secretary.
1. Lord Wakeham
2. Lord Lamont
3. Lady Kinnock
4. Lady Williams of Crosby
I think the answers to this week’s quiz can be gleaned from the responses. The correct answers are, indeed, Lord Wakeham, Lord Lamont (who served as Chief Secretary to the Treasury and as Chancellor of the Exchequer, but held no other post in Cabinet, unlike Lords Healey, Howe of Aberavon, and Lawson), Lady Kinnock, and Lady Williams of Crosby. Congratulations to Emmy and Dave H – who just managed to correct himself in time before Robin submitted his answers. Commendations to all those who submitted correct answers. The response is impressive.
