James Bond on the Thames

Lord Soley

Taking advantage of the fine weather the other day I went on the terrace of the House for a drink. There was a small speedboat coming under Westminster Bridge and towards the House. Now in these troubled times that gets a little police attention. Suddenly a river police boat appeared at a fair rate of knots and did an impressive turn around the speed boat and placed itself between the boat and the terrace.

It reminded me of the old James Bond movie (I can’t remember the name) with an incredible chase on the Thames. I also saw that for real as I happened to be with my kids in the area.  The last time we had such interest on the terrace was when the whale swam up the Thames – I missed that! Curses!

Surely a James Bond ‘film’ ? The next you’ll be telling us he eats ‘cookies’ with his tea at four o’clock…

Any chance of getting a ‘guest post’ out of Lord Myners to explain himself ? Still having seen the excellent film ‘Il Divo’ last night, I do now realise that in this country, even with Lord Mandelson, there are heights to which we Brits may never scale…

The opening scene from The World is Not Enough must be what you are thinking about.

I have some vague memory of an MP or peer pulling a boat alongside the terrace restaurant to get a bottle of wine (or similar) and causing an incident?

Bedd Gelert, I too saw Il Divo last night. So unlike our own dear politics….terrific wasn’t it? Loved the music and I even followed some of the Italian. I wonder whether Andreotti’s seen it

Interesting. Does this mean that the government really is, as Bruce Schneier says, using action movies as their basis for formulating anti-terrorism policy? It would explain a lot.
