There is always adminstrative work to be done in the Independent Crossbench Peers’ office and the top of the list seems always to be desk space! This is one of the most pressing issues and will not be resolved until the Millbank site becomes fully functional in 2015. It says something for the spirit and dedication of members of this House that despite the cramped space, almost half of all amendments tabled by Parliament arise from this House. Neverthless in this the Mother of All Parliaments, a desk is surely first on the list of priorities. Of the 200 odd Independent Crossbench Peers – only 97 have access to a desk and some of these are on a hot desking basis.
