I will get round to responding to several comments about our pay which have cropped up in comments on Lord Norton’s fascinating blog on reform of the lords but first I want to warn everyone that I shall shortly be returning home to Norfolk for the long break ( thank goodness for missing out on the weekly commute, which I detest) and then going off to Italy for a holiday. I shall still be blogging if the weather turns suddenly stormy as it does sometimes in Italy at this time of year. Right now as I write my husband is out on the Norfolk Broads in our very old, not at all posh little river cruiser seen above. Personally I was hoping for something as palatial as the Yacht Britannia but it seems it won’t fit in Horning Marina. The weather’s been so bad this year that we’ve hardly got out on the river at all and not overnight. Now in case you think this is all self indulgent, I want to forewarn you about the forthcoming Broads Bill, a private members bill to update the powers of the Norfolk Broads authorities. It’s going to be sponsored through the House by the Bishop of Norwich, that’s quite unusual and is due in the autumn. A large number of petitions have been laid against it; ie a significant number of people are protesting about its various provisions; it will be interesting to follow its passage through the House. It will almost certainly not appear in the Chamber at all except at the final, third reading. I’ll keep you posted as I find out more. Mostly I think it’s about the saftey regulations and the powers of the authorities to influence what happens in adjacent waters that can affect the health of the Broads. It’s a heavenly peaceful place on the Broads waterways, easy to get away from the tourist spots and so much more beautiful from the water than from the local roads.
But if I’m not blogging so frequently you’ll know where I am.
