This week's quiz

Lord Norton

65534Just two questions this week, neither as hard as last week’s question.

1. How many current members of the House of Lords have served as Secretary of State for Wales?  Who are they?

2. I served as principal private secretary to Geoffrey Howe and Nigel Lawson as Chancellors of the Exchequer.

I have served as Ambassador to the United States.

I have been head of the diplomatic service.

Who am I?

The first two readers to provide the correct answers will be declared the winners.

Well done to all those who responded. As is fairly apparent, the answers are (1) Lords Morris of Aberavon, Crickhowell, Walker of Worcester and Hunt of Wirral and (2) Lord Kerr of Kinlochard.

Congratulations to Chris K. and Croft who were the first two to respond with the correct answers. They are this week’s winners. Especial congratulations to Chris K. as he has now won three of the quizzes. He wins the prize of tea at the Lords. If he would like to get in touch, we will arrange a convenient day for the tea once the House resumes.

The roll call of honour so far in terms of the number of quizzes won (since offering a prize) are:

    Three – Chris K.

    Two – Jonathan

One – howridiculous, Run Seven, Richard Kaszeta, Robin Lewis, Michael, Ulysses, and Croft.

The next person to win a total of three quizzes will be invited to tea at the Lords. Chris K. is welcome to continue competing, though if he wins another three quizzes I may offer the alternative of tea again at the Lords or something suitable from our souvenir shop.

Congratulations! I am duly impressed by all sides and aspects of this. In so very many ways it is splendid. While often sarcastic — I assure you that I am sincere just now. Remarkable — I have been to forty countries more or less and am not so easily impressed.
