A couple of straightforward questions (I think) for this weekend’s quiz:
Peer 1
I am Noble and Learned
I have served as a Secretary of State
I am a Knight of the Garter
The territorial part of my title is the same as that of another distinguished former Cabinet minister who sits on the other side of the House.
Who am I?
Peer 2
My first degree was in maths
I have been a professor of economics and dean of a business school
I served on the Treasury’s panel of independent forecasters
I chair a major UK regulatory body
Who am I?

Peer 1 : Baron Morris of Aberavon
Peer 2 : Lord Currie of Marylebone
1) Lord Morris of of Aberavon, KG, PC, QC sometime Secretary of State for Wales & Crown court recorder. The other cabinet minister sitting on the opposite side is the Tory, Lord Howe of Aberavon.
2) Lord Currie of Marylebone, Sometime Dean & Prof of Economics at the Cass Business School (U of L), Treasury Independent forecaster (’92-5) & Chairman of Ofcom.
The first one I believe is Lord Morris of Aberavon.
For the second, I am guessing a bit, but I think it is Lord Stern of Brentford.
Well done to Steph, who got in first with the correct answers. Croft provided the information on both. Lord Morris of Aberavon qualifies as noble and learned because he served as Attorney General (1997-1999). In the Lords, one has to have held high legal office (e.g. Law Officer, Lord Chancellor) to qualify as learned. FinnishCowl: Lord Stern was a good guess; his first degree was in maths and he was a professor of economics, but the other clues do not apply to him.
At least this week I appear to be correct in assuming that the questions were straightforward!
