Having been wowed by all the Olympics and now by Murray I have to say the British are suddenly a sporting nation again. Whoopee!!
But as someone who is profoundly ignorant about sport can anyone tell me who the British women were who won the grand slam in the US? I have been assuming that the British haven’t won it for 76 years but I heard on the radio that it is only we men who haven’t won it.
Are these multi-tasking women walking off with the titles leaving us poor men in ignorance of their success?!

A Grand Slam event is one which qualifies one to be a Grand Slam winner by winning other Grand Slam Events as well. Thus Murray has won a Grand Slam event in winning the US Open.
British player Peter Norfolk won the Wheelchair Quad Singles in 2007 and 2009.
Officialy Vriginia Wade is not a a true grand slam winner even in the carreer category. Yet, she did win the championships in all four of the necessary venues and more than once in several. But some she won in singles and some in doubles. She did not have wins in every required venue in a single discipline…
Realise that it is the 63 million British People in the UK who need to be encouraged and enabled to make themselves all-round self-movable, especialy in their 75% lifeplaces rather than confined in their mere 25% workplaces.

not the miniscule few already super-fit such as Murray, Wade, and the Paralympians (“great” ‘though all that is).

It would be difficult to have a scuba diving olympic competition I guess, which used to be the noble lord’s prefered “sport”, if sport it is at all?
Who comes up with the most lobsters perhaps in the shortest time?
