I have just returned from a most inspiring visit with the Select Committee on Science and technology to the California Institute for Regenerative medicine. They were voted $3billion (Yes, billion!) to conducy stem-cell and genomic research to be translated into real clinical outcomes. And – they are doing it! – in diabetes, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimers and many more. Wonderful and so good for these terrible diseases in the developing world as well as here.
Long ago it was found that the 400+ so-called “Degenerative Diseases”, from Cancer at the “cold” end through arthritis, diabetes, dementia, and others, to heart-deterioration at the “hot” end,
are but the symptoms of only one underlying complex-disease
lipotoxemia.*
(* Poisoning of one or more of the body’s lipids. There are several different lipids in the human-body, and very many different Toxins that can, and do, get in;
hence I used the descriptor “complex-disease”).
What has been done to follow-up that research finding ?
Has even 100million been spent on that, since its first publication maybe eighty years ago, and its further publicising around 1970 (via “The New Health Revolution” by Ross Horne) ?
——————-
There are many good and true research advances being made, that are being neglected by the Medical and Pharmcological professions, and by Ministries of Health;
and there are distortions and avoidances, such as of the spirit and extent of the UN WHO Declaration of Primary Health Care 1978 which was meant to have the sense of first-response self-care rather than monopolistic-medical-first-response-and-‘ownership’ “care”
(and was immediately swept under the pre-existing monopolistic British Primary Medical Care rules and regulations, and redefined to exclude both primary health building and primary self-care) ?
——————-
The relevance of the above to this stem-cells Topic includes
The Money, other Costs, unnecessary- sufferings, and avoidable-deaths –
involved for instance by professions and governments ignoring and even ‘stifling’ some advances,
and then very belatedly focusing all hopes and research-funds upon just one ‘magic-bullet’.
Stem-cells may well be one of the few highly-successful ‘magic-bullets’;
however, one can’t help feeling that much more is needed, for truly self-engaging and all-round holistic health building, than a few key ‘replacement-cells’ or ‘transplants’.
