This week’s quiz questions. The first two to respond with the correct answers will be the winners. We now have a total of three grand prize-winners. It will be interesting to see how soon we have a fourth.
1. Two ministerial resignations were announced at the same time in 2003 over the issue of war with Iraq. One of the ministers, John Denham, sat in the Commons. The other was in the Lords. Who was he?
2. The Lords presently has one member who is blind (Lord Low). Who, though, was the first blind person to be appointed to a life peerage?
3. One current member of the Lords served in the RAF during the Second World War and holds both the DSO (Distinguished Service Order) and DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross). Who is he?

1. Lord Hunt of Kings Heath
2. Lord Fraser of Lonsdale
3. Lord Mackie of Benshie
1) Lord Hunt, the Health Minister
2) Lord Fraser of Lonsdale
3) Lord Mackie of Benshie
I think.
1) Hunt of Kings Heath
2) Fraser of Lonsdale (1958 – the first LP)
3) Mackie of Benshie
1 – Lord Hunt of Kings Heath
2 – Lord Fraser of Lonsdale
3 – Lord Mackie of Benshie
Congratulations to all four respondents for getting the correct answers to what I thought were some testing questions. The answers are indeed Lord Hunt of King’s Heath, who has since returned to Government and is Deputy Leader of House; Lord Fraser of Lonsdale, who came in with the first batch of life peers in 1958; and Lord Mackie of Benshie, who has been described as one of the bravest men to fly in the Second World War.
Congratulations to Ulysses. This is his third quiz success, making him a grand prize winner. An invitation to tea at the Lords will be on its way shortly. Congratulations also to Len, who now joins the list of prizewinners. Commendations to Croft and Derfel.
