The House Resumes on Monday

Lord Soley

The House resumes next Monday with the first day in committee of the Planning Bill. This is an important measure that will allow a quicker resolution of major planning issues. There is opposition to the Bill but it is worth remembering that the Terminal Five planning process took over five years and cost the taxpayer millions of pounds. We were also unable to get the high speed rail link through to London from the continent as quickly as we should have done because of our cumbersome procedures. I believe it is possible to speed the process up without losing the right to object. Other European countries have far more streamlined procedures and it shows in their advanced transport infrastructure.

On Tuesday there is a debate on the Pensions Bill and Wednesday is the second day on the Planning Bill. Thursday sees the first part of the Counter Terrorism Bill.

It should be a lively week!
