The weekly quiz – identify the faces

Lord Norton

This week’s quiz draws on photographs rather than descriptions of members of the House of Lords.  Reproduced here are pictures of three relatively recent entrants to the House; one entered in 2007 and the others much more recently.   Two of the three are professors.

The first two readers to identify correctly all three peers will be the winners.

    1) Lord Wei

    2) Professor Baroness Afshar

    3) Professor Lord Bew

I met Lady Afshar once – a pleasure to talk to.

    Lord Wei,
    Lady Afshar,
    No idea.

Left to right (although the order seems to have changed from when I first saw it…)

    1. Lord Wei
    2. Professor the Baroness Afshar
    3. This is the tough one. Could it be Lord Monks? He’s apparently a visiting professor at Manchester.

Just one winner this week. Congratulations to Len. The photographs are indeed of the entrepreneur Lord Wei, Professor Baroness Ashfar (professor of politics at York University), and Professor Paul Bew (professor of history and Queen’s University, Belfast). The clue to the last named was the reference to being introduced in 2007.

That actually confused me. According to a certain online encyclopaedia, Lady Afshar was introduced in 2007 and so I assumed the third picture must’ve been more recent.

Lord Norton, I have to protest! 😉 Baroness Afshar was also introduced in 2007, so the question is incorrect. I was looking for two people joining the Lords this year!

Chris K and Jonathan: You were clearly caught out by my cunning deception. The fact that a transcription error meant I had Baroness Ashfar down as being introduced in 2009 rather than 2007 is neither here nor there. 🙂
