Outside support

I met today with the head of an industry group, concerned that some approaching legislation would damage his members’ business.

Without any significant research support ourselves, beyond the ever helpful library, it can be difficult to know whether the case being made is a good one.

What irks me most about the lack of movement on Lords reform is that we remain dependent on outside support to do our job – and thus more vulnerable to their influence than we should be.

Appointed Lords or elected Senate, we should be given the resources we need to do our job

    Absolutely!

However, until the ‘One Hundred Year Lease’ on absolute Commons power is freely given up there will be nothing to cool the coffee. As recent events have shown they have no monopoly on being right all of the time. They make mistakes and the electorate know this.

I feel sure they will cut you some slack, sooner than later.

Libraries are fine but the hive mind that is the internet when focused can deliver a cross section of views that deception cannot hide from.

Most large businesses take to issuing a mission statement. Should the House of Lords issue such a statement. To do so would be to define its aims and objectives and re-enforce the brand so to speak.
