The weekly quiz – public officials

Lord Norton

This week’s quiz covers peers who have served as public officials in one capacity or another.  I have previously asked how many peers have served as Head of the Diplomatic Service.  We also have several who have served as Secretary to the Cabinet.  However, several peers have served as public servants in other positions.

1. I served for ten years as Secretary-General of the European Commission.  Who am I?

2. I served as Private Secretary (Overseas Affairs) to the Prime Minister and spent four years as the Ambassador to Italy.  Who am I?

3. After working in local government as a chief executive, I served as Permanent Secretary in the Department for Education and Employment.  I have also served as Chair of the Legal Services Commission.  Who am I?

As usual, the first two readers to supply the correct answers will be the winners.
