Happy Birthday

Lord Soley

There’s no hiding it – 70 years ago the Second World War broke out and I was born. The two events are not necessarily connected although the Nazis did throw in the towel on my 6th birthday!

Newspapers publish birthdays of people in public life and Peers are no exception. I always know when it’s been published because people walk by and say “Happy birthday!”.

Today had a new surprise for me – a birthday card from the well known blog respondent on this site Lady Tizzy! I am suitable impressed by her research but I should  tell all respondents that we are not expecting birthday cards from all who use this site.  Mind you – the occasional crate of champagne might lead to a few indiscreet revelations on the blog! Or Lord Norton’s students might get some interesting new comments on their essays and Lord Tyler would have something to help him while away the long train journey to Cornwall!

I was even more impressed when a fly past of about twenty helicopters went over the Lords. “Wow” I said “How did Lady Tizzy organise that!” My ego was rapidly deflated when I recalled that a fly past was planned for the anniversary of the Fleet Air Arm.

Oh well, – maybe next year! Meanwhile thank you Lady Tizzy – I feel wanted again!

Your birthday/WW2 connection reminds me of Spike Milligan’s Adolf Hitler: My Part in His Downfall

I know the London-Cornwall train well enough. 5-8.5hrs on a train exhausts any number of newspapers/work/books; count the emmet competitions 😉
