Here’s the usual weekend quiz questions. I plan shortly to post a more general question which I hope will attract responses from a great many readers.
Peer 1
I was educated in Glasgow and London.
I am a distinguished surgeon and was professor of surgery at Guy’s Hospital.
I spend my summers undertaking surgery on a hospital ship off the coast of West Africa.
Who am I?
Peer 2
I served as an economic adviser to the Treasury.
I was a professor of economics for more than two decades.
I am now known as the father of my famous son.
Who am I?

2) Maurice Peston, Baron Peston of Mile End
Peer1: Ian McColl, Lord McColl of Dulwich. Surgeon to the international charity Mercyships. Interesting guy looking at his biography. He is Shadow Minister for Health and is faced opposite by Lord Darzi (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health) a fellow surgeon who he worked with for a number of years. Small world even for the Lords.
Answer to question 2: Lord Peston of Mile End.
Peer 1 : Baron McColl of Dulwich
Congratulations to Croft who got in first on this occasion with the answers. Audrid and Steph were pipped at the post with their individual answers. Lord McColl of Dulwich is indeed Peer 1 and Lord Peston (father of Robert Peston) is Peer 2. As Croft rightly notes, Lord McColl faces Lord Darzi, so when it comes to health issues one has the experts very much to the fore.
