The next hearing of the Intergovernmental Organisations Select Committee will be on Wednesday 26th March at 3.30pm. The hearing is open to the public as usual.

Our witness will be Dr Scott Dowell, Director of the Global Disease Detection Program of the US Centre for Disease Control in Atlanta, USA. http://www.cdc.gov/ The evidence will be taken by video link again.

The Centre for Disease Control (CDC) plays a very important role detecting and preventing disease world wide. They have a number of centres around the world. One of the areas of interest for us is how they work with the World Health Organisation (WHO) http://www.who.int/en/ and how they avoid yet more duplication of effort and expense. It should be an interesting session and I will make a link to the video hearing after the meeting.

The Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Organisations Select Committee was set up late last year. I had argued the case for a select committee to examine the way the government uses taxpayers money with intergovernmental organisations and to consider how contemporary issues of international policy are addressed through United Kingdom membership of intergovernmental organisations (excluding the European Union), including their impact and effectiveness and value for money.

We have started our first enquiry on how we use intergovernmental organisations to deal with communicable diseases.

So on monday there was an opportunity to draw attention to this new enquiry in Questions and I duly took advantage of that!
