I have previously done a post on the competition to find the outstanding life peer of the past fifty years. There was a shortlist of twelve, listed in my previous post. Peers voted for one of the twelve on the list.
The result was announced by the Lord Speaker at a ceremony in Westminster Hall on Tuesday. The winner was Lord Williams of Mostyn (pictured), who served as a Labour junior minister, Attorney General, and Leader of the House of Lords. His time as Leader was cut short by his untimely death. He was a leading lawyer as well as a distinguished parliamentarian. He was a notable orator and a skilled Leader, well able to detect the mood of the House and respond accordingly. The plaque commemorating the award was received by his daughter.

Lord Norton,
Sorry, but I cannot resist telling you about another person who is ‘outstanding in his field’..
A farmer..
Apologies, but the summer recess is just around the corner..

‘Summer’s here and the time is right for dancing in the street..’
Lord Williams was a truly great man and a v good leader of the house, a real shame he died at his prime.
